Archetypes is a collective of narrative photographs that build a world within which my sculptural work lives. Archetypes is a collection of photography of sculptures, clothing, ritual objects, and environments. Each piece referencing archetype, mythological figures, of folk tales based on a meditation done in each mask. After these, journaling what emotions, colors, tones, textures, experiences are associated with each piece. The forms I create push my work into consciously merging archetypes and myths to create newly assembled conglomerate identities. These identities are collective memory bodies. These new polymorphic identities I hope can be visionary, more-complex molds for our civilization.
I believe female stories are less depicted in myth. I therefore chose to be the visual voice for female-centric mythologies and allow the acceptance of a broader spectrum of female emotional ranges and being-ness. I work with this tentacle form. To me it mis symbolic of tree roots, nerves, neuron bodies, dreadlocks, hair on the surface of our skin, cephalopod tentacles, plant tendrils and also more importantly energetic threads.
